Campus demonstrations

  • Most campus demonstrations such as marches, meetings, picketing or rallies are peaceful in nature and non-obstructive and should not be interfered with. Please call Campus Public Safety for any of the below conditions:
  • INTERFERENCE with normal College operations.
  • PREVENTING access to College buildings.
  • THREAT of physical harm to people or damage to College facilities.

Peaceful, non-obstructive demonstrations

  • Notify Campus Public Safety (802) 865-6465 or campus ext. 6465 with details.
  • Do not interrupt or engage with the participants.
  • Efforts should be made to conduct College business as usual.

Non-Violent, yet disruptive, demonstrations

  • Notify Campus Public Safety (802) 865-6465 or campus ext. 6465 with details.
  • DO NOT interrupt or engage with the participants.
  • In the event that a demonstration blocks access to College facilities or interferes with the daily operations the demonstrators will be asked to terminate the disruptive behavior.
  • Campus Public Safety will monitor the situation to help ensure the safety of all. Any further intervention will be made in accordance with Champlain College Protocols.

Violent, disruptive demonstrations

  • In the event that a violent demonstration in which injury to persons or property occurs or appears imminent:
    • Notify Campus Public Safety 865-6465 or campus ext. 6465.
    • DO NOT interrupt or engage with the participants.
    • If indoors, close all doors and windows, lower blinds, stay in groups, and await updates.
    • If outdoors, immediately relocate to a place that offers safe shelter.
  • Champlain College will alert and update the College community on developments and conditions of the event via emails, website, and possibly the RAVE alert system.
